Minisode: How an Editor Considers an Essay

Hey kids, this one’s from KJ. As you probably know, I edited the Motherlode blog at the New York Times for five plus years. That means everything that appeared there came through me, which means I’ve edited hundreds of essays for the NYT—and considered thousands.

I thought it might be helpful if I traveled back in time (mentally) and described my process for considering a submission—so here goes.
